Deborah Jiang-Stein, a writer who was born heroin-addicted to a mother under guard at the Alderson Federal Prison for Women, and who tours women’s prisons as a soul-affirming speaker, responds:

I think I need to read this to the women in prisons next month when I speak; thanks for the reminder of (it). I just read it aloud, imagining 1200 women in khakis listening to this, waiting for those with arms crossed to uncross as I walk amongst them with poetry...Even the guards will listen to this one! I’ll let you know. I hope I get a church-kind-of Amen on this.
